Physical Activity Monitoring
A portable activity tracker called a StepWatch can be sent home with the child to record how much walking the child does over the course of a week. This information is very useful for children who are recovering from surgery.
During the year following surgery, children need a strong rehabilitation program to achieve the best outcomes. The gait lab can provide a video record of the child’s postsurgical recovery and set specific measures of progress during this rehabilitation phase using the StepWatch. After surgery, your child should be videotaped and provided with a StepWatch in the gait lab at EACH of the following intervals: 3 moths post surgery, 6 months post surgery, 9 months post surgery, 12 months post surgery, 18 months post surgery, 24 months post surgery.
